Top Women Sailors Face Off

U.S. Women's Match Racing Championship 2005

Fort Worth, Texas, USA

Anticipation is building as the Virtual Spectator ISAF Women's Match Racing World Champion Sally BARKOW and runner up Betsy ALISON along with six other teams, prepare to battle it out on J/22s from 16-19 November 16-19 at US SAILING's ISAF Grade 3 U.S. Women's Match Racing Championship held at Fort Worth Boat Club, Texas, USA.

The National Championship could turn out to be a re-match of the recent ISAF Match Racing Worlds where BARKOW and ALISON met in the finals. Looking at the complete list of competitors, winning this regatta will be no easy feat for any team, as the list includes Olympian Pease GLASER, 2002 USA Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year Liz BAYLIS, as well as several World Champions, and US Sailing Team members.

The stakes for the Championship are high: the winning team will receive US SAILING's Allegra Knapp Mertz Trophy and will qualify for a position at the Regional Finals for the ISAF Nations Cup.

Lithuania's Juozas Bernotas came out on top in the Men's RS:X whilst Russia's Stefania Elfutina was triumphant in the Women's RS:X. Both sailors claim the first Abu Dhabi ISAF Sailing World Cup Final spots whilst Jock Calvert (AUS) and Joanna Sterling (AUS) picked up the Oceanic spots for the Emirati finale.

A tight group of five young Papua New Guinean (PNG) Laser sailors are stepping up their 2015 Pacific Games competition program using this week's ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne. PNG is one of 33 countries represented at the important Oceanic event, the largest Olympic sailing regatta in the southern hemisphere.
