Strathfield Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Yacht Race
Pittwater

The largest offshore race in Australia now its 23rd year, this is the more popular 'warm water' alternative to the Sydney to Hobart Race.
Last year, the race record was smashed by the high tech sixty footer Bob OATLEY'S Wild Oats. She beat Russell CROWE and his mates on Ludde INGVALL'S Nicorette/Travelex by more than an hour. Wild Oats is now even faster as her Canon Big Boat performance showed, when she almost beat the Rolex Sydney to Hobart favourite Skandia.

She could again smash the record, of 18 hours, 18 minutes for the 224nm race.

However Coffs Harbour Challenger, another sixty footer, a former Gosford to Lord Howe Island line honours winner will be waiting for a mistake from her rival.

It will be a highly competitive racing fleet, the largest IRC fleet ever assembled in Australia and amongst the handicap favourites is Stephen DAVID'S 'Joe', with a world class crew including renowned navigator and 2003 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year nominee Adrienne CAHALAN.

With the biggest offshore fleet of the season including 17 identical Sydney 38's, there is sure to be lots of action on the startline.

The race to Coffs Harbour is the fifth race in a seven race series, four off Pittwater starting 12 noon on Saturday 27th December and continuing with races on January 5th and 6th off Coffs Harbour.
