Yachting Australia has appointed Peter CONDE as High Performance Director, to lead the Australian Sailing Team and the supporting high performance programs.
An accomplished sailor with podium finishes in Etchells and Laser World Championships and architect of Yachting Australia's Gold Medal Plan, which led to the formation of the Australian Sailing Team, Peter CONDE brings a wealth of experience to the organization.

CONDE has a strong professional services background, having worked for international consulting firms Boston Consulting and A T Kearney in the past and set up and ran a boutique strategy practice for 10 years.

"The Australian Sailing Team's success in China and its status as AIS Program of the Year is a measure of what a great platform we have for the future, thanks to the work of the Team over the past three years," said CONDE.

"I am proud of my involvement in designing the program and we now face a huge challenge to deliver gold medal performances at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and to build an even stronger base for the longer term future of High Performance sailing in Australia."

Yachting Australia President Andrew PLYMPTON believes that CONDE's professional and sporting background provides the ideal combination for leading the Australian Sailing Team to success at the 2012 London Olympic Games and beyond.

"Peter was instrumental in the development of the Australian Sailing Team in 2006. His Gold Medal Plan laid out the blueprint that led us to two gold and one silver medal in Beijing," he said.

"With our focus now shifting to London 2012 I know that Peter is the right person to drive the development and continued success of the Australian Sailing Team," said PLYMPTON.

CONDE will work closely with the newly formed Yachting Australia High Performance Advisory Group. The group has been formed to provide advice and input into the organisation and planning of Yachting Australia High Performance programs, including the Olympic and Paralympic campaigns.

"The formation of the High Performance Advisory Group marks an important step for the Yachting Australia as we look to build on our success by further enhancing our high performance programs and the Australian Sailing Team through the support of some of the country's most successful and influence individuals from inside and outside the sport," said PLYMPTON.

The High Performance Advisory Group is chaired by Sydney Olympic gold medallist Tom KING and includes America's Cup winning skipper and Olympic bronze medallist John BERTRAND; three-time Olympian and Yachting Australia board member Karyn GOJNICH; three-time Laser World Champion and former CEO of the Volvo Ocean Race Glenn BOURKE; Director of the Australian Institute of Sport, Dr Peter FRICKER; Australian Sports Commission Senior Sports Consultant Peter SHARPE; and 2008 Australian Paralympic Team physiotherapist Sue CRAFER.

CONDE believes that the input of High Performance Advisory Group will be of great benefit to the Australian Sailing Team.

"I look forward to working closely with the most distinguished High Performance Advisory Group, the small group of hard-working AST staff, our coaches led by the legendary Victor KOVALENKO, and our elite and developing athletes," he said.
