Paralympic Games are on their way

London 2012 Paralympic Sailing Competition

Weymouth and Portland, Great Britain

The Olympics are over, the water's been warmed and in 14 days' time the Paralympic Games will be underway.

From 1 September 40 teams featuring 80 sailors will fight it out on the already warm Olympic and Paralympic waters at Weymouth and Portland, Great Britain with three medals on the line.

A full complement of sailors has been released and published on the IFDS website and includes a string of former Paralympic gold medallists including Heiko Kroger (GER), Paul Tingley (CAN), Damien Seguin (FRA) and Dror Cohen, Arnon Efrati and Benni Vexler (ISR).

The Paralympic Sailing Competition runs until 6 September with 11 scheduled races for the 2.4mR, SKUD18 and Sonar.

Lithuania's Juozas Bernotas came out on top in the Men's RS:X whilst Russia's Stefania Elfutina was triumphant in the Women's RS:X. Both sailors claim the first Abu Dhabi ISAF Sailing World Cup Final spots whilst Jock Calvert (AUS) and Joanna Sterling (AUS) picked up the Oceanic spots for the Emirati finale.

A tight group of five young Papua New Guinean (PNG) Laser sailors are stepping up their 2015 Pacific Games competition program using this week's ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne. PNG is one of 33 countries represented at the important Oceanic event, the largest Olympic sailing regatta in the southern hemisphere.
