I know it is hard to think about sanding the bottom of your boat in this weather, but there are so many other things you can do.

Make your list of improvements, look over your safety gear, order that new set of sails you haven't told your spouse about yet.

We are very excited to announce a new trophy we are going to award this year: "The UK Sailmakers' Bayview Mackinac Yacht Club Challenge". Generously donated by Al DeClercq from UK Sailmakers, you will have the opportunity to get your buddies together to represent your yacht club.

The rules are simple: Each yacht club can enter teams of three boats consisting of one long course, one shore course, and one cruising class boat. You can enter as many teams you desire. Points will be awarded based on a boat's overall finish in their fleet. Details of the rules are to follow, so stay tuned.

I must say that the trophy is the most magnificent sterling silver sailing ship, all refurbished and rededicated. A picture of the trophy will be displayed as soon as the last bit of polish is buffed out.

So start thinking about your challenge. If your club only had two boats last year, get your roster out and make that call for your third member. Come challenge for this new trophy.
