Route planning, notices and stoppages
If you're a regular boater or planning a boat trip or holiday it's a good idea to check our navigational advice before you make a journey.
Occasionally our canals, rivers and towpaths are closed for maintenance work. When this happens, whether it’s an emergency stoppage or planned maintenance work, we’ll post a notice on this site to let you know what we’re doing and how the work is progressing.
This is also the best place to find out about any restrictions in place, opening times of manned structures, booking information and general navigation advice.
All you need to do is select the waterway(s) you’d like to find out about and then select the type of notice that you want to find out about from the search box on the right. Alternatively you can search by region rather than waterway.
Winter works
Each year we carry out a series of restoration and repair work. If you're a boater and would like to see maps of the planned winter closures visit our winter works information page.
Search our interactive maps
All of the stoppage and notice information available here is also available on our interactive maps. Search by nearest town or postcode and see notices in your area. All you need to do is tick the ‘Notices’ box in the map key.
Dimensions
It's a good idea to take a look at the dimensions of our waterways before setting off. The information should only be used as a helpful guide and you should always use your own judgement taking into account local circumstances at any particular time.
