The Expendables 2
De opnames werden geschoten in ruim 14 weken, met een budget van 100 miljoen dollar. Filmlocaties waren onder andere Bulgarije, Hong Kong en New Orleans. De dood van een stuntman en mogelijke milieuschade zorgden voor controversie omtrent de film.
De film kwam uit in Europa op 16 augustus 2012 en in Noord-Amerika de daaropvolgende dag. The Expendables 2 bracht wereldwijd meer dan 312 miljoen dollar op. Een vervolg The Expendables 3, is in ontwikkeling.
The Expendables
De film creëerde met deze macho-bezetting hoge verwachtingen bij de liefhebbers van het actiegenre. Sommige filmcritici spraken van een Rocky-reünie. Stallone stond in 1985 oog in oog met Lundgren in de boksring van Rocky IV. Toen de film een succes werd kondigde Stallone al meteen dat er een tweede deel aan en in 2012 kwam The Expendables 2 uit.
The Expendables 3 komt uit op 15 augustus 2014, met als regisseur Patrick Hughes en in de cast: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Wesley Snipes, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Antonio Banderas en vele anderen. Het verhaal draait om de groep huursoldaten bekend als "The Expendables" terwijl zij in conflict raken met de medogenloze wapenhandelaar Conrad Stonebanks, de mede-oprichter van "The Expendables", die vastbesloten is om het team ten gronde te richten.
