The Canadian Creator Collab Callout - Today’s post brought to you by the letter “C”

Calling all Canadian YouTube creators! We have an exciting development program that we are kicking off - the Canadian Creator Collab Callout! Collaborating with other YouTube creators can be one of the most effective ways to tap new audiences - whether you are Lindsey Stirling, Minute Physics or Walk Off The Earth, collabs mean making friends and finding new fans around the world.

So here’s the deal: tell us a YouTube collaboration idea that you and your other Canadian creators have on this application form (submissions due by November 29th). Selected applicants will receive training on best practices in optimizations, audience development, AND some valuable access to professional studio time and equipment to film your collaboration idea.

To be eligible, you need to be based in Canada and have at least 100 subscribers on each of the channels applying. And, remember, it’s not cool to submit a collaboration idea that includes another channel unless of course that channel is on board and wants to be a part of the application.

Don’t forget the YouTube Creator Playbook has some great tips and information about getting started if you are looking for best practices and strategies to help build your audience on YouTube.

Submissions are due by November 29th, 2013. More information about the program guidelines can be read here. Looking forward to receiving your application!

Update: Creators can submit multiple collaboration ideas as long as each is paired with a different set of channels.

Thundermist Lures is your October partner On The Rise!

Congratulations to the team over at Thundermist Lures, our featured “On The Rise” partner for this month. Their channel and several of their videos are in the spotlight on the On The Rise homepage and the YouTube home channel today.

Thundermist Lure Company’s team of professional anglers - Claudio, Ivo, and Phil - have been fishing for over 40 years. Their combined wealth of knowledge makes them expert guides when it comes to fishing tackle and methods, not to mention fishing for different types of fish and in different types of water! Whether you’re new to the sport or you’re out there winning tournaments every weekend, the team’s weekly videos are bound to entertain and educate. So why not check out a few of their videos? You can see how they reel ‘em in with the Viper Spoon or learn some secrets and tips about catching catfish. Of course, you may want to start with figuring out the best fishing rod for your next catch before you hit the open water!

Here are a few words from Ivo, the host of “Thundermist Fishing Tips:”
We love sharing knowledge and different fishing tips/techniques with you on a regular basis. Spending quality time with family and friends on the water fishing is one of our favorite pastimes and we've been doing just that on YouTube since 2007. We are finding that more and more people are writing in with questions, as they want to spend more time enjoying our great outdoors and the sport of fishing. Thanks to all your positive feedback and support over the years, our YouTube channel continues to grow. [Being featured as YouTube’s On The Rise partner] is an honor that we would like to jointly share with you as we equally deserve such recognition. Thank you and as always, until next time, good luck and good fishing.
If you’ve enjoyed this monthly blog series and are interested in learning more or participating, we encourage you to visit our On The Rise homepage. You can check out all of our past featured partners on the Featured Partners tab, or nominate a YouTube partner to be considered for the program on the Nominate tab. Feel free to submit nominations for your own channel, or for channels you follow that you think deserve more attention or could be the next YouTube sensation. We’ll continue to feature promising partners who drive YouTube watch time, have fewer than 100,000 subscribers, and produce engaging content on a regular basis.

Communications Manager: a new channel management role

Do you get help from others to manage your channel? We heard from creators that you need better ways to delegate responsibilities to your trusted team members. We started by allowing our creators to add multiple managers to their Google+ page connected channels and, today, we’re announcing a new specialized ‘role’ – the communications manager.

Page owners can now assign the “communications manager” role to people in charge of engaging followers without giving full access to the connected YouTube channel or permission to edit their overall Google+ page appearance. Now you’ll have more control over what your channel managers can access. You can also use this feature to work with new channel collaborators without giving them access to manage your videos.

The communications manager role will have the ability to do some of the following key actions:

Communications managers will not have access to your YouTube channel and will be limited to social interactions on your Google+ page. For instance, these managers cannot work in your video manager, upload content to your channel, view your channel analytics, authenticate the channel for third-party tools, or add or remove managers from your account.

You can compare the three roles available to admins of your channel and corresponding Google+ page to get a better understanding of the various permissions. To start assigning different manager roles, visit the “Managers” tab of your Google+ Dashboard.

Expanding paid channels to more partners and countries

Many of you have been asking for more flexibility in distributing and monetizing your content, which is why we worked with a pilot group of partners to launch the first paid channels on YouTube. These are new YouTube channels with monthly subscription fees starting at $0.99, adding even more ways to build audiences and turn your passion into your profession.

Today is the next step in offering you more ways to monetize your content through paid channels, now available to eligible partners in good standing with a channel that has least 10,000 existing subscribers. In addition to the 10 countries where paid channels are already available, you can also create and subscribe to paid channels in Mexico, with more countries launching in coming months. If you’re interested in creating a paid channel and fit these requirements, visit your Account Features page to enable the feature.

All paid channels will continue to have a 14-day free trial, to give your potential viewers the opportunity to explore your content. Viewers can also now discover and subscribe to your channel from YouTube’s mobile website, and we’ll keep adding more devices from which viewers can subscribe.

Just as the Partner Program empowered creators to build great channels over the last six years, we look forward to seeing how you use this additional business model to build your audience on YouTube.

Help us select October’s “On The Rise” Partner!

On The Rise is a monthly program where we introduce four YouTube partners whose channels drive significant watch time but haven’t yet reached the 100,000 subscriber mark. Thanks to your help, we’ve identified four channels this month who are getting close to crossing that threshold. Our October nominees create engaging videos about their hobbies, which include origami, auto repairs, fishing, and extreme sports.

You can help these partners get even closer to reaching that 100,000 subscriber milestone. Check out their videos below, vote for your favorite here, and one of these candidates will have the opportunity to be featured across YouTube later this month. In addition to your votes, each channel will be evaluated on criteria such as viewer engagement and channel optimization techniques to decide which partner we’ll feature.

In past months, featured On The Rise partners like StanWinstonSchool and CookingAndCrafting have gained subscribers and seen their watch time grow due in large part to your support. This month’s poll will be open until October 10, 5 p.m. PT, so don’t forget to vote for your favorite channel. Check back to see which channel will be featured on October 30.
