Join in and Push the Boat out at St Edmundsbury

May is National Watersports Month and on Saturday 17 May and Sunday 18 May, the St Edmundsbury Sailing & Canoeing Association (SESCA) will be opening its doors and inviting people to come along and have a go at sailing.

Whether you’re completely new to the sport, looking to get back on the water or sail regularly, SESCA  will be one of the many sailing clubs and centres across the country taking part in the RYA’s Push the Boat Out weekend.

The event will see hundreds of people taking part in the sport at open days, have a go sessions and fun events for all the family. Starting at 10.30 am on 17 May at Lackford Lake, 5 miles NW of Bury St Edmunds, there will be sailing taster sessions taking place on an as available basis, until 4pm each day.

Children over seven may sail if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Nature Reserve regulations do not allow dogs on site. Visitors are asked to wear soft shoes and bring a change of clothes.

Commodore Kieron Adams said: “We are delighted to be taking part in the RYA Push the Boat Out, we are inviting the local community to come down to the club, have a go at sailing and see what the club has to offer.”

RYA Sport Development Manager Duncan Truswell said “Push the Boat Out provides the perfect opportunity for people to discover their local sailing venue, meet key volunteers and like-minded people, have a go at the sport and find out how much fun it is and how easy it is to get involved.”
