The 81 girls are split into 2 qualifying fleets and are racing on the western course area whilst the 159 boys are split into 3 qualifying fleets racing on the eastern course. Each day the qualifier fleets are re-sorted into different qualifier groups. This means that for every girls race there will be 2 first places, 2 second places and 2 third places etc. and for the boys 3 of each place. After 4 day's of racing and a minimum of 4 races sailed the fleets will be split in final fleets of gold, silver and for the boys bronze based on the overall score at the time of the finals split.

The light winds started at 8 knots but quickly dropped to a shifting 5 to 6 knots for most of the day giving the race officers a headache trying to keep lines square and few sailors a disqualification when they were scored as being on the course side of the line at the start. A total of 10 points scored across both races was a good result considering the conditions so Olivia Bergstrom's SWE result of 2, 1 was particularly good as well as being the top score across both fleets.

With 12 different countries across the top 6 places in each fleet the scene has been set for an exciting week of racing.
