For Rio de Janeiro's thousands of tourists Monday 4 August was the perfect day with a beating Brazilian sun, clear South American skies and the occasional gust of light breeze to cool down bathers on Copacabana Beach.

After the Finn and RS:X fleets kicked off racing at the Aquece Rio - International Sailing Regatta 2014 on Sunday, the remaining seven will start on Monday 4 August.

Congratulations to the new 420 Open World Champions Jose Manuel Ruiz and Fernando Davila (ESP) and Carlotta Omari and Francesca Russo Cirillo (ITA) who are the 420 Ladies World Champions.

Sopot Match Race, the latest event on the Alpari World Match Racing Tour, saw an impressive come-from-behind victory for British skipper Ian Williams' GAC Pindar team on a day that seemed set to be sailed in light northerly winds. That was until the wind shut down, performed a 180 degree turn, and then filled in with a sudden blustery 20 knots from the south.

Racing kicked off at the Aquece Rio - International Sailing Regatta 2014 with the Finn and RS:X fleets taking to two race courses on Guanabara Bay.

Dziwnów put on its best show for the final two races of the Laser Radial Youth World championship. A 10 knot breeze from the along the shore built steadily throughout the first race to 13 knots with good surfing waves. The wind topped out at 15 knots but the waves built to give some great rides down wind.

A light wind day finished off the final series of the 29er World Championship on Lake Ontario for the 29er Worlds.

Finn and RS:X racing will kick off the Aquece Rio - International Sailing Sailing Regatta, the first test event of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
