The 2003 Formula Windsurfing World Championship is currently underway in Dranske, Germany. 23 women and 93 men are competing for the title and yesterday kicked off with one race for the men and two for the women.
Day one dawned with light airs but racing got eventually got underway. Read the reports from the Day's winners:
Steve Allen
Race 1, was a steady 8 to 11 knots. I had a good start 20m down from the boat so I was on top of most of the fleet but had to tack early due to a boat in the course and rounded the top mark in 3rd behind Wojtek and Ross. Then on the second lap I pointed higher around the bottom mark, then tacked the same time as Wojtek and Ross and out pointed them giving me the lead. I was then able to hold them off on the down wind leg to the finish being a perfect way to start the first race in 1st.
Christine Johnston
I`m really happy with today. It was pretty light winds, but I managed to make the best out of it. The first race was close, but on the second race I got away on the second upwind. It was a nice feelings to hear the crowd cheer when I crossed the finish line.
Racing continues until Sunday 5 October.
