AAPT capable of sprinting to speeds above 25 knots crawled against ultra light winds for an agonizing 26 hours before sailing into a southerly front off Breaksea Spit.

Skipper Langman and crew including David SUDANO finally had some wind pressure to smile about when the southerly wind spiced with rain squalls allowed the sprint machine to break free.

They had a heavy workload when the initial blow hit but the AAPT crew who understand what it is like to do the hard yards after their brilliant second to the larger maxi Nicorette in the Rolex Sydney-Hobart race simply sprinted clear of her rivals Heaven Can Wait (Peter HOLLIS), The Cone of Silence (James NEILL) and AFR Midnight Rambler (Bob THOMAS).

At the last report AAPT was logging 18 knots sailing under spinnaker in 20 knots of consistent wind towards Lady Elliot Island.

However while her speed was impressive it appears that she will have little chance to successfully defend her COURIER-MAIL CUP win when she completed last years 308 n/ml race in 20 hours 36minutes 48 seconds.

The return of the moderate to fresh spinnaker sailing winds has favoured the smaller yachts with a wave surfing 'blow home' finish.

As expected six times winner Ian Wright was leading the charge with Saltash 11 closely pursued by Pagan (Peter KERR) Scampi A and Wistari.
