Staines SC Pushes the Boat Out

May is National Watersports Month and Staines Sailing Club (SC) in the Borough of Runnymede is hoping to get lots of people on the water on RYA Push the Boat Out weekend.

On Saturday 17 May the club will be opening its doors and inviting people of all ages and abilities to come along and have a go at sailing.

Whether you’re completely new to the sport, looking to get back on the water or sail regularly Staines SC will be one of the many sailing clubs and centres  across the country taking part in RYA Push the Boat Out weekend.  The event will see hundreds of people taking part in the sport at open days, have a go sessions and fun events for all the family.

Starting at 11.00 there will be a whole host of activities including free sailing taster sessions, a chance to see the club’s facilities, and find out how to start and progress in the sport.

Visitors who would like to sail are asked to wear soft shoes and bring a change of clothes. Buoyancy aids will be provided.

Joyce Threadgill of the club says: “We are delighted to be taking part in the RYA Push the Boat Out, we are inviting the local community to come down to the club, have a go at sailing, see what the club has to offer and get involved, who knows if you visit you might just get hooked! “

Joyce adds: “The club is in the Borough of Runnymede, not far from Thorpe Park. Some satnavs take people to Spelthorne, on the wrong side of the river, so please be aware of that.”

RYA Sport Development Manager Duncan Truswell said “Push the Boat Out provides the perfect opportunity for people to discover their local sailing venue, meet key volunteers and like-minded people, have a go at the sport and find out how much fun it is and how easy it is to get involved.”
