Toby and Tom on the water

Zone Squad boys do Littleton proud

Two young OnBoarders have their sights on 2020

Toby Mizzi and Tom Callan first met at Littleton Juniors, Littleton Sailing Club, in April 2012, aged 11 and a new sailing partnership was forged. By that September, they had teamed up in a Feva for their first racing event, the Surrey Schools Regatta, and gained a creditable fourth place. At the same event the following year, they came first, and now they’ve been selected for the E/SE RS Feva Zone Squad. Next stop Junior Squad!

The boys have been enjoying their winter training; most recently they’ve been on a training weekend at Rutland Water. The squad members are all becoming friends and chatting on social media sites now, and Toby and Tom are loving going to new places to sail. They cannot wait for the next training weekend at Bewl Valley Sailing Club where they are going to be practising their starting techniques.

But they’re working even harder between their training weekends. They have been receiving extra coaching from Tim Hore, who runs the training programme at Littleton Sailing Club. The club members at Littleton have been very supportive and encouraging, which Toby and Tom really appreciate, and the two have received £150 each from Spelthorne Sports Council to help towards the cost of their training.

Now they’re looking forward to the 2014 NSSA regatta at Downs Sailing Club in Kent, the Eric Twiname at Rutland Water and the Feva Nationals at WPNSA.

Their short term aim is to be selected into the Junior Squad.Their long term goal is to be in Japan in 2020!

Toby and Tom would like to say a big thank you to Nigel Maycock for his coaching, support and the hire of the boat, and also to Tim Hore for giving up his time for extra training. The boys hope to do Littleton SC proud.
