    Building up to the European's

The build up to our Europeans is pretty chilled out, as we have been doing so much intensive training in Weymouth and the recent racing at the World Cup in Kiel.

It promises to be a close regatta

After Kiel week Alain and I have had a bit of down time to relax before we set off on Thursday (1st July) to Poland for the 2010 49er European Championships.

A short break before training start again!

We had a great entry list this year for Kiel week, with the organisers opening up the event to include the able bodied sailors too.

Ironic injury is no laughing matter

Unfortunately my training has been disrupted this week as I have injured my back.It is only a temporary set-back and I hope to only miss 6 or 7 days of training, but it is still very frustrating to miss any amount of practice, especially at such an important time of the season

    Gold in Germany!

A different wind direction, back to the off shore we had on the first day but, and a race course really close to the shore so even more random and shifty. With all the 49ers on very close points it was all to play for going into the medal race, So it was a race to decide it and pretty much who ever was up there would win!

    The sniggle-fest continues in Kiel...!

Today was very similar to yesterday in Kiel. We had 3-5 knots and really big chop from all of the traffic moving around the Kiel canal and inside the bay.

Light and Fickle Day in Kiel

One race for each fleet was completed for the 49ers today which ends the qualification series. The wind was light and fickle and the day started cloudy, with bright clear skies following after a postponement, ever changing into heavy rain storms.

    Getting Our Boatspeed Back!

In Feb and March we put a lot of hours on the water out in Palma, Majorca with the Mens 470 Squad. This was very good training, but still something was not quite correct with the feel and speed of the boat in full power conditions.

    Silver Medal at the Euros

After one night at home after Holland regatta it was off to Estonia for the Laser Euros, sailing out of Tallinn. The course area was a little restricted by the shipping channel which were sailing close inshore and the conditions were generally offshore with shifty challenging winds and a sharp chop.

After a week off at home on Portland it was back out to Holland for some pre-Worlds training to gather venue knowledge and get in some good quality hours on the water. Upon arrival back in Amsterdam we managed to find our van with no incidents and drive to our accommodation ready to begin our training the next day!

Getting used to life in Estonia

I arrived in Tallinn in Estonia on Tuesday night. The first thing I noticed was how light it still was at 9pm. The sun doesn’t set till about 11pm and comes back up again about 4am.

How We Spend Our Down Time

After returning from Holland regatta Kat and I have a few days off before we fly back out to Holland for a training camp at our Worlds venue.  Just like normal people don’t get to spend all their weekend doing fun stuff, likewise we have a lot of campaign stuff to sort out before we can relax.

After some serious training in Weymouth it was off to Medemblik in Holland for the latest round of the ISAF World Cup Series. There were 97 Laser entrants so the fleet was split into two for the qualifying series.
