A63 Castle Street Improvement-Hull

About this project

Improvement of a 1 mile (1.5km) stretch of the A63 at Castle Street by lowering the level of the road into a cutting by approximately 7.6 yards (7 metres) at Mytongate Junction. Ferensway and Commercial Road would pass over, being raised by approximately 1.09 yards (1 metre), creating a split level junction. The project will also widen the eastbound carriageway to three lanes between Mytongate and Market Place, with the nearside lane being marked for local traffic. The westbound carriageway would have two lanes, as at present. Provide pedestrian footbridges at Porter Street, in front of Princes Quay shopping centre and at Market Place, to allow pedestrians to cross above Castle Street. Close accesses from Castle Street to the Holiday Inn Hotel, Spruce Road and Waverley Street, on safety grounds. Alternative accesses would be provided.
