Rona Sailing Project
THE RONA SAILING PROJECT

“Promoting resourcefulness, responsibility and teamwork among young people.”

The Rona Sailing Project is one of the oldest Sail Training organisations in the UK, established for over 50 years. In that time, we have taken over 20,000 young people to sea and given them the experience of a lifetime, greater self-confidence and a new perspective on the world
We ensure that our crews come from a wide variety of social backgrounds: from the well-adjusted, to those in the care of Social and Probation Services, as well as those in between.
We are the second largest provider of offshore sailing in the UK for people who are deaf, visually impaired, both blind and deaf or have severe learning difficulties
Apart from a dedicated full-time team of just four, the Project has 400 volunteers, who man the yachts.

“We are very proud and grateful to be selected as the Marine Charity of the 2013 PSP Southampton Boat Show. The Rona Sailing Project strives to ensure that no young person is excluded from taking part in a sail training voyage on the grounds of cost. They pay £190 for a seven day period which represents one third of the actual operating cost. Any contribution from the PSP Southampton Boat Show will be much appreciated. “

Macmillan Cancer Support
MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT

One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face. That’s 889 people every day, and 26 of those will be in Hampshire, where the Southampton Boat Show is held.

No one should face cancer alone, and that is why Macmillan is reaching out to ensure that services and solutions are in place now, so the people who are touched by cancer, will know who they can turn to for support. Macmillan is a well-loved and trusted national charity with a strong local footprint in Hampshire.  We help people from the very moment they suspect they have cancer and continue to support them throughout their cancer experience.  We help not only the person who is diagnosed, but offer support to the family, friends and colleagues affected.

As treatments improve, more and more people are living with cancer in their daily lives. By 2030, the number of people living with cancer and beyond cancer will have doubled from 2 million to 4 million people
If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way. We provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care. We are Macmillan Cancer Support

Teenage Cancer Trust
TEENAGE CANCER TRUST

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for the six young people aged between 13 and 24 diagnosed with cancer every day. The charity builds specialist units within NHS hospitals that bring young people together to be treated by teenage cancer experts in a place designed just for them.

Traditionally treated alongside children or elderly patients at the end of their lives, young people can feel extremely isolated during cancer treatment, some never meeting another young person with cancer. Thanks to overwhelming public support Teenage Cancer Trust will be opening a ten bed teenage and young adult cancer unit at Southampton General Hospital this year, for young people from the South Coast and the Channel Islands.

Teenage Cancer Trust also educates young people and health professionals about cancer to ensure a swift diagnosis.
Beth Bartlam Regional Fundraiser said “We’re thrilled to be a chosen charity for Southampton Boat show. Teenage Cancer Trust relies on donations to fund all of its vital work improving the lives of young people with cancer, so we are just so grateful”
