This course is designed to refresh basic fire fighting knowledge and to enhance the skills of the student in leadership and organisation of teams of personnel. Each student must take charge of a team and/or area of operations during an exercise.
Overview:
During the 4 days of the course students will be continually assessed on their organisation, tactics, command, communications and fire fighting including control of injured persons. It also covers topics such as ventilation control, hazards involving dangerous goods, liaison with shore-based firefighters and the effects of water, used for fire fighting, on ship stability.
Aims:
The aim of the course is to give seafarers and super yacht crew the essential education to meet the knowledge, understanding and proficiency requirements set out below -
- Control fire fighting operations aboard ships
- Organise and train fire parties
- Inspect and service fire detection and fire extinguishing systems and equipment
- Investigate and compile reports on incidents involving fire
Course Duration:
4 days, 0830 to 1730
Pre Requisites:
- Minimum age 18
- Hold the STCW 95 Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting Certificate (part of STCW Basic Safety Week)
Course Conditions:
By the very nature of fire fighting, we are unable to run this course on site at our marina. Instead, the course is run about 35 minutes away from our centre at a specialised fire training ground. Training is provided by an external MCA Approved Training Provider.

- Fire theory
- Breathing Apparatus
- Use of extinguishers and branches
- Practical exercises using fire fighting appliances and breathing apparatus in smoke and heat
- Organising and planning drills for your crew
- Control fire fighting operations aboard ships and super yachts
- Organise and train fire parties
- Effects of loose water on ships and super yacht stability
- Inspect & service fire detection, fire extinguishing systems & equipment
- Investigate and compile reports on incidents involving fire
- Casualty handling
