Sailing Courses

At Stormforce Coaching, we offer a wide range of sailing courses, yacht racing events and charter. So, whatever kind of sailing you're interested in, we're confident we will have an option to suit everyone.

We offer a variety of Sailing courses on different types of sailing craft and opt to teach the RYA's National Sailing Scheme in Keelboats. So, why choose the keelboat for training over other types of sailing boat? Well, for those new to sailing, the keelboat is the ideal boat on which to learn. Unlike its' counterpart, the Dinghy, the Keelboat doesn't need launching, meaning more of your training time will actually be spent afloat. Similarly, the keelboat tends not to capsize, meaning you spend more time training and less time getting wet (and there's no need to wear a wet suit!) These open boats are much better able to handle heavier weather, so your training won't be restricted to certain times of year and they can travel further, so you get to experience more whilst on the water.

If you're new to sailing, you will find the RYA National Sailing Scheme the best place to start; we offer all of these beginner and improver level courses in our open Keelboats. So, how do the 3 levels of the sailing scheme differ? The RYA Keelboat Level 1 Start Sailing course introduces complete novices to the sport of sailing, providing the opportunity to crew and helm under supervision, whilst gaining a basic understanding and knowledge of the sport. Those who wish to become competent sailors in light winds and sail without an instructor onboard, should progress on to the RYA Keelboat Level 2 Basic Skills course, which further develops techniques, manoeuvres, rigging, mooring and safety skills. The RYA Level 3 Better Sailing course is an improver course which bridges the gap between the Level 2 Basic Skills course and the more advanced modules you might aspire to (RYA Seamanship Skills, RYA Start Racing, RYA Sailing with Spinnakers).

If you are a sailor of larger sailing yachts, there are many options for you. The RYA's Sail Cruising scheme is designed for sailing in yachts with sleeping and eating facilities: our Sail Cruising courses are live aboard. We cater for sailors of all levels of experience and skills. Complete beginners can come sailing with us for a 'Start Yachting' weekend, whilst boat owners can create bespoke 'skills & drills' taster weekends or hire a skipper to train them aboard their own boat. Those new to sailing often start with the 5-day RYA Competent Crew course, before going on to complete their RYA Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper courses. We teach to the advanced MCA / RYA Yachtmaster level and Instructor level courses.

If you like sailing, you may also enjoy the competitive race events we enter, including the following inshore and offshore races:

Courses take place over summer weekends, weekdays and summer evenings.
