Six of the ten Olympic events will be contested in Qingdao, Men's One Person Dinghy, Laser; Women's One Person Dinghy, Laser Radial; Men's and Women's Two Person Dinghy, 470 and the Men's and Women's Windsurfer, RS:X.

Competitors across the six events will be vying for a qualification spot to the ISAF Sailing World Cup Final and their share of the 180,000USD prize money. 18,000 USD will be awarded to the gold medallist with 8,000 USD and 4,000 USD going to second and third place.

For the six events there will be a free entry free for the top 10 on the ISAF World Sailing Rankings which is issued on 22 September 2014. The organizing authority will reimburse the entry fee to the top ten in each class.

The early entry fee for the single handed events is 30 USD, rising to 50 USD after 22 September. Early entrants in the double handed events will be charged 60 USD with the price rising to 100 USD after 22 September.

There are affordable charter boats available for Laser, Laser Radial and 470 competitors and travel funds for RS:X offered by the organizing authority.

Hosted at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Centre, venue of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition, the five day race series will commence on 14 October and will conclude on 18 October with the Medal Races.
