RYA Sailability shortlisted for official Cowes Week charity

RYA Sailability needs your vote!

RYA Sailability, the charity of the RYA which supports sailing and boating opportunities for people with a disability, has been shortlisted for a chance to become the official charity for Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week.

An official charity is appointed for the event every three years and since ‘Toe in the Water’ reached its final year in 2013, the search is now on to recruit a new charity.

RYA Sailability exists to give everyone the chance to experience the exhilaration, self-reliance and sense of freedom that sailing gives, regardless of disability. Since 2005, Sailability has enabled over 20,000 people with a disability to get out on the water and to sail regularly.

“We’re delighted to have been shortlisted. Sailing is a sport that can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of ability and is one of few sports where people with a disability can sail and compete on an equal basis” explains Debbie Blachford, RYA Sailability Manager.

“Involvement with Cowes Week 2014 would help to increase national awareness of the programme, spread the message and promote the huge benefits that people with a disability can gain from sailing”.

RYA Sailability has been shortlisted along with two other sailing charities, The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation and UKSA.

Voting is simple and all you need to do is to visit the Cowes Week website charity page and click to support your chosen charity. The deadline for voting is Friday 8th November 2013.
