Ready, steady...and it's almost go for new P1 UK season

All roads lead to Bournemouth for double bill of top class sport and entertainment in national championships

Months of preparation and training are almost over for the P1 powerboat teams and Jet Ski racers as they head for the Dorset coast where this weekend’s Bournemouth Grand Prix of the Sea will launch the new UK race season (31 May – 01 June).

The two national championships have attracted increased competitor numbers that will see a fleet of ten P1 SuperStock boats and more than forty AquaX riders take to the water.

Salterns Marina in Poole will be the base for the P1 Panther race boats, with the racing taking place close to Bournemouth’s famous pier. The three SuperStock races over a 2.2 mile course will serve up a feast of fast, furious and free-to-watch action over the two days.

A new entry this season is the Bournemouth-branded boat, crewed by the husband and wife pairing of Stuart and Sarah Cureton from Hampshire, and the sleek, colourful craft is sure to be a big attraction. Another local favourite will be Arran Scott from Poole who is making his SuperStock debut at the wheel of the Lycamobile Racing boat.

P1 chief operating officer Robert Wicks is excited about the new race season: “We have new venues and new teams, with a great mix of experienced racers and rookies. It’s going to be seriously competitive and a very open series.  If I was a betting man……well, I’m glad I’m not.”

Veteran driver and former SuperStock champion John Wilson in the Pertemps boat said: “I’m expecting some tough competition this weekend and the opening couple of races are always interesting. GD Environmental will mount a serious challenge for the title, IFX Racing are looking good and the Bournemouth boat could be in with a chance.

Coverage of the Bournemouth Grand Prix of the Sea is scheduled to be screened on Sky Sports in early July. The 5-venue UK SuperStock Championship will move on from the Dorset coast to Hull, Cardiff and Torquay before Gosport hosts the season finale in September.
