EUROSAF Race Officials Exchange Programme
Is your Club or Class planning to stage a large event and wants to reduce expenses? If the answer to the question is yes then the EUROSAF Race Officials exchange programme could be just what you are looking for.
All International Judges, Umpires and Race Officers have to officiate at several foreign events over their four year qualification period. Also, all qualified at national level and looking to become International have to also officiate at a number of events outside of their home country.
Many European authorities now pay the travelling expenses of their officials attending particular events. This means that hosting clubs needing to find an International Jury for a World or European Championships or for a lesser event can take advantage of this exchange.
An official arriving for an event only needs their accommodation and food provided, which of course can be provided most economically with a little planning. The major expense is in having to fund all the travelling of an International Jury.
We have a fair number of UK Officials who also need placements abroad, but in order to create opportunities for them to add to their experiences we need to be able to offer placements here for visiting officials.
The scheme could provide: An Assistant Race Officer who could work as part of your team, gaining experience for themselves and adding skilled support and possibly even ideas towards the smooth running of the event.
A National Judge or Umpire who would welcome the experience of working with you at your event. The additional International Judge or Umpire that you may need to fulfil the conditions of the event. How it works:
You will need an email address. This year the scheme is being managed by Chris Watts, Race Officials Education Officer. You can contact him at: chris.watts@rya.org.uk
He needs to know before October if you have an event requiring officials for the year after. He will circulate your request to the EUROSAF Committee and receive offers at their meeting in December.
The RYA will inform you in January of the results of your bid and put you in contact with the appointed official. So far the system has worked very well across Europe, but we are always working on ways of improving it.
This exchange programme provides UK officials with a means of updating their qualifications and events with access to a bank of experienced officials from other European Countries at low cost. We need your support to keep it running.
