Join in and Push the Boat Out at Blakeney

May is National Watersports Month and May is National Watersports Month and Blakeney Sailing Club (BSC) and Coastal Rowing Association of Blakeney (CRAB) are hoping to get as many people as possible out on the water on RYA Push the Boat Out weekend.

BSC will be opening its doors and inviting people over 18yrs and of all abilities to come along and, weather permitting, have a go at sailing on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May and CRAB hope people will join them on Sunday 18th May.

Whether you’re completely new to the sports, looking to get back on the water, sail or row regularly, Blakeney will be one of the many sailing clubs and centres across the country taking part in RYA Push the Boat Out weekend.  The event will see hundreds of people taking part in the sport at open days, have a go sessions and fun events for all the family.

On Saturday 17th May at BSC the first sailing race will be at 08:15 so if you are interested in racing you would need to inform us before hand and because we are tide dependent, to be at Blakeney at 07:15.

On Sunday 18th the emphasis will be more on social sailing, after a lie in you would need to be at Blakeney at 08:00, once again you would need to inform us before hand.

On Sunday 19th May, CRAB will be offering rowing from 09:00 to 10:30.  A whole host of activities take place to organise a successful event on the day.  There will be race officers, safety officers, assistants, organisers, sailors who helm and need crews, rowers, coxes, small dinghies, larger sailing boats, CRAB’s St Ailes skiff and more.

Joe Carr, BSC commodore and Vicky Holliday, CRAB president are delighted to be taking part in the RYA Push the Boat Out and are inviting the local community to come down to the club, have a go at sailing and rowing, see what the club has to offer and get involved, who knows if you visit you might just get hooked!

RYA Sport Development Manager Duncan Truswell said “Push the Boat Out provides the perfect opportunity for people to discover their local sailing/rowing venue, meet key volunteers and like-minded people, have a go at the sport and find out how much fun it is and how easy it is to get involved.”
