Kipper Sailing’s eLearning

Pilotage

We believe that contemporary eLearning is the best way to study for your RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Theory Qualification. Our courses are engaging, get results and save you money. You can study any time, anywhere with an Internet connection for up to 12 months, moving backwards and forwards within and between lessons to ensure that you’ve fully grasped concepts and processes before moving on.

RYALogoOur courses are fully approved by the RYA for gaining associated qualifications.

All our lessons are all narrated, so unlike older generation on-line training, it’s not just a case of reading stuff from a screen instead of a book. High quality graphics based on 3D models depict realistic scenarios from the perspective of a yacht’s cockpit. Exercises are presented in many different formats, not just multiple-choice questions, and you get immediate feedback including fully worked answers to the many exercises offered in the RYA course materials.SC1

Support from a highly experienced Yachtmaster Instructor is always on hand. You can ask questions from directly within a lesson.

Course PackAs soon as you’ve signed up you can log-in to Kipper Sailing’s Learning Management System and start eLearning. RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Theory

eLearning4RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster is a significant step up from Day Skipper. Much of the content of lessons will be familiar to students who have passed Day Skipper but there is considerable additional detail and, whereas in your Day Skipper course you were (just) expected to absorb the principles, even if you struggled to consistently get all of the answers right, at Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster level you need to able to walk the walk, not just talk the talk. There are 3 final exams: Collision Regulations, Meteorology and Chartwork. You are not allowed to refer to your notes, text books etc. and they are rigorously marked. The pass-mark for the Collision Regulations paper is 80% and, in the other two, you must get the majority of the answers right, within a tolerance appropriate to the circumstances. If you plan to use the qualification to attain a STCW Master 200 Certificate of Competence your exam must be invigilated by a professional person who must sign a declaration that you have complied with the associated exam conditions.

Most students will need around 40-50 hours to go through all the lessons and take the associated exercises, which alone take around 24 hours.
