Last day was the most windy day of all!The last day of the Curacao Youth Championships was the most windy day of all. The sun was shining and the waves were high. After one race the Race Committee of Race Area A decided to send the kids to Barbara Beach for an early lunch. After the lunch the Splashes, Optimist A and the Sunfish were send to the "Stormplas" at Spanish water for another three races. This has been the most windy CYC we have ever seen and it was incredible that the kids were able to handle the sea that all other yachtsmen were warned not to sail. Have a quick look at the final results of Splash, Optimist A and Sunfish. In front of Asiento the final day was exciting for the YSCO Opti's and Optimist B as well. Four races were sailed with some new winners on this day compared to the first two days. The parents were able to see the fierce competition from the beautiful terrace of the Zeilhaven of Asiento. It was amazing to see that these young sailors even kept smiling after a capsize. The final scores of YSCO Optimist and Optimist B
Second day was very windy again! The second day of the Curacao Youth Championships was a windy day again. The big difference was the sun. Except for one or two rainshowers the sky was clear. The sun colored the white caps on the waves even brighter and gave a friendly shine. But the wind was killing. Even the top-kids were exhausted when they came in. On the sea 5 races were sailed: The scores of Splash Optimist A and Sunfish On the Spanish Water Lagoon, the YSCO Optimist and Optimist B started their races near Tank 14. But as the waves got bigger and the gust became stronger, the race Committee moved the racing area closer to Asiento. The hills protected the sailing area the kids showed some nice tactics in the shifty conditions. The scores of YSCO Optimist and Optimist B First day was very windy! The first day of the Curacao Youth Championships was a windy one. At sea the kids had to chanlenge waves that reached over two meters in height. The spectators were amazed how well these young children were able to cope with the wind and waves. Only a few kids had to retire, mostly because their boats had small problems. Results of the classes that sailed out on the sea: Day 1 Optimist A, Splash, Sunfish. Inside the Spanish Water Lagoon the wind was still strong but better to deal with. Only a few times the Optimist B and YSCO Opti kids had to deal with enourmous gusts that came with the rainclouds. Alltogether a very challenging day on the waters in front of the Zeilhaven of Asiento at Brakkeput Mei Mei.
