We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website and in doing so try and adhere to many of the available standards and guidelines.
What are we doing for standards compliance?
The Jubilee Sailing Trust is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability.
To help us make the jst.org.uk website a positive place for everyone, we’ve been using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and user friendly for everyone.
How are we doing?
The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA and AAA). We’ve chosen to comply with the priority 2 guidelines (Level AA) as the target for the jst.org.uk website. Whilst we strive to achieve our goal of Level AA accessibility for the whole website we realise there are some areas that still need improving. The following information explains what we’re doing to make that happen.
Colours:
Issue: 1.4.3: Contrast (Minimum)
Solution: We are looking to tweak some of our colours to match the necessary contrast ratios. Contact us if you need help.
Sound:
1.2.1: Audio-only and Video-only (Prerecorded)
1.2.2: Captions (Prerecorded)
1.2.3: Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded)
Issues: No transcripts for videos.
Solution: We will work towards adding transcripts to all videos. Contact us if you need help.
How do I make the text bigger so that it is easier for me to read?
Some users might find screen text easier to read by increasing the size at which text is displayed. To do this you should simply adjust your browser’s settings.
- Using Chrome, go to Settings > Zoom and select the size you want.
- Using Internet Explorer, go to View > Text size > and select the size you want
- Using Firefox, go to the View menu, select Zoom and then either Increase Ctrl + +, Decrease Ctrl + – or Normal Ctrl + 0.
- Using Opera, View > Zoom > and select the size you want
What are PDFs and how do I read them?
PDF stands for Portable Document File. You need a plug-in called Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these files which you can download for free from Adobe’s website. Users who have concerns about accessibility should visit Adobe’s accessibility website. Recent versions of Acrobat Reader have a Read Out Loud facility, which can be found under the View menu.
