Thunder at the end of the pier show

Thundercat Racing enjoys a great weekend in Boscombe

With weather that can only be described as mixed, cool and showers replaced by glorious sunshine and perfect conditions for the beach, the ThunderCat Racing series competed for rounds four and five of the RYA National Championship (31 May – 01 June).  

On Saturday, Bligh Julius and Charles Hatfield in the ultra-quick, Ocean Racing prepared ‘Team 33’ took the top spot, with ‘Unlucky 4 Some’ and ‘Streamlined Propellers’ joining them on the podium.  

Newcomers to ThunderCat Racing, Tom Williams and Dom Langdon in ‘Broad Bean’ took a notable 8th place overall in the field of 16. Williams a chef who has trained under Michael Caines and Gordon Ramsey, who cooks in the Salutation Inn, Topsham, Devon was thrilled with his first performance.

• 3rd  Race No.92 - Streamlined Propellers - Giles Gillespie and Dan Lewin  

Heat two on Sunday saw holiday makers throng to Boscombe Pier and, of course the beach.    

In a packed day of qualifying and racing heats, 12 ThunderCats competed in the nine lap final to battle it out for the 5th round.   This saw another master class from Bligh Julius and Charles Hatfield who took the lead from the start and never relinquished it. Jack Weller and Arron Joyce, ‘Unlucky 4 Some’ could only watch Team 33's transom.

Rounds six and seven of the RYA Pro Stock Championship takes place over the weekend of 21-22 June at Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire.
