Burton Sailing Club News (51)
Welcome to Burton Sailing club website. The club enjoys the excellent sailing facilities at acre Foremark Reservoir admist the dramatic Derbyshire countryside, in the heart of the National Forest. The club is situated within easy reach of Derby, Nottingham, Burton, Leicester and Loughborough. The reservoir covers 230 acres and is easily the best stretch of water available in the area for sailing. We offer various membership types including ordinary, junior, family as well as group membership with several local colleges/universities.
We will be hosting our annual open day on Monday 26th May (11am - 4pm). This is an opportunity for anyone to come down to the club, have a look around our facilities, meet the team, have a look at the boats we sail, and go for a trial sail with one of our instructors.
The open day is open to everybody, no matter what age or experience. We are a family club, and would love to see both parents and children visiting us on the day.
No special clothing or equipment is required for those opting for a trial sail - only shoes with decent grip (e.g. trainers) that you don't mind maybe getting a bit wet. Buoyancy aids etc will be provided.
If you're thinking of learning to sail with us, or if you'd just like to see what we do, come down and visit us on the 26th!
The Burton Mail's Sarah Bould recently tried sailing for the first time at Buton SC. Read all about her taster session here.

On Saturday 15th March Burton SC's Youth Academy joined other sailors from DYS at a Team Racing Event at Farmoor Reservoir near Oxford. It was the Academy's first foray into competitive team racing and unfamiliar boats and difficult weather conditions added to the challenges they had to overcome. A great time was had by all, and our juniors are keen to build on this great experience to make competitive racing a regular event.

Written by Martin NelsonSpaces are available on our up-coming 'learn to sail' and first aid courses, later this month. These courses are available to both members and non-members.
Our next First Aid course is on 22nd March, and our first 'learn to sail' course of the year starts on 29th March and runs for 5 consecutive Saturdays.

Training Update
Burton Sailing Club’s 2014 Training Programme is up and running. Courses started with First Aid yesterday and continue over the coming weeks with powerboat and safety boat courses before the main Saturday dinghy starter courses run from late March. Following the success of yesterday’s over-subscribed course, we want to make everyone inside and outside the club aware of our extensive training programme and encourage them to book. Details of how to apply are on the Training page of the website.
The administration of Training Courses has been updated and simplified this week. When someone applies to join a course they now complete a full application form, which will reserve their place on the specific course. When they return the completed and signed form to the Training Administrator, together with a cheque if applicable, their place will be confirmed and joining instructions issued. For anyone who completed a training request form before 29 January, their place should be reserved but it would be helpful if they would re-apply to ensure that all early-birds have been captured by the new system here.
On 21st September, Burton SC will be taking part in (hopefully) the largest sailing race ever. Get it in your diaries now!
