Commodore’s Notes 19th June

Before we look at the calendar for the week, some great news, and a new initiative to help Members:

For FIVE weeks, starting 27th June, and 4, 11, 18, and 25th July, there will be an opportunity for members to receive help from our Instructors, (the Two Toms, Tom Ditchburn, and Tom Hubbard). They will be on hand to offer advice to everyone who joins in on the Friday evening Cruising NOT Racing evening.

Of course, this does not replace our Adult “Learn to Sail” and “Start to Race” courses led by John Waind. However, for anyone who has taken part in these courses, the chance to practise, and be guided will instill yet more confidence. [read more...]

Commodore’s Notes 11th June

Dear Member,

The “Great Manchester Cycle” may not appear to have too much to do with sailing, so please bear with me!

Past Commodore Ian Savell has contacted me to say that he has entered this event, to take place on 29th June (the day of the Laser Open). The 52 mile course was full, so Ian will ride 26 miles instead. As his chosen charity, Ian has named The Andrew Simpson Foundation –that is, the organiser’s of Bart’s Bash – to encourage young people into sailing. Ian would be grateful if [read more...]

    GP14 Open – Report

We were pleased to welcome several visitors to our 2014 GP14 Open at Budworth this Sunday 1st June. Competitive racing and great social event too! (See pictures on our Gallery page)
The fleet captain had promised “some challenging racing” and it was, although perhaps not quite the challenge he had in mind. A beautiful sunny summer day, but the wind was light and fickle so, as is often the case, playing the shifts was the name of the game!
Thanks go to the race team of Russell & Ali Cormack plus Ellie Devereux. Russell stayed calm, and was sensibly prepared to delay the race starts until it looked as tho there would be wind for the start of each race. [read more...]

    Snipe 2014 ladies & junior

The yearly event was planned for Bank Holiday Monday and followed last year’s successful format to have a themed event. The theme this year was something with a letter ‘S’. Participating teams keep their theme a close secret and it is only revealed just before the briefing.

Four races and three different race winners proved that despite the costumes the sailing was very competitive. [read more...]

    Raceboard Open – Report

10 raceboards enjoyed 4 races in glorious warm sunshine. Although the first race was held in generally light airs the wind picked up throughout the day so we experienced several good blasts in planing conditions. The racing was close with positions varying between races except for Pete Wilkinson who won [read more...]
