Fast Track Yachtmaster Professional Sail Training Course

PDF Print E-mail

How our ex students found the trainingThe Hamble School of Yachting's Fast Track Professional Sail Training (PST) course is an intensive program of theoretical and practical sailing instruction. This sailing course is designed to progress a relatively inexperienced sailor to qualified commercially endorsed Yachtmaster with the necessary certificates and sufficient practical experience to begin a career as a professional yacht skipper. Alternatively this is a great option for anyone looking for a life-changing experience, either following retirement or, during a gap year/career break. Alternatively students can opt to complete just part of the course to increase their skills to the next level.

Why Hamble?

  • The programme consists of three seperate and distinct modules each consisting of five weeks tuition. These modules can be taken individually or all in one go. Each module is seperated by a week off. This approach enables students who may have more experience to join at a later module. This route has proved increasingly popular for leisure sailors looking to increase their skills and qualifications to the next level without necessarily committing to a long period of training. Students who already have equivalent sailing experience to Day Skipper level and at least 700 miles can join at Module 2. Students with a Coastal Skipper certificate and about 1600 miles sailing experience can join the course at Module 3 to achieve their Yachtmaster qualification. Students can of course do the entire Fast Track course by completing a module at a time with time off between.

  • At Hamble we pride ourselves on having small numbers to maintain high quality and individual attention. Your progress is constantly monitored and help is always at hand.

  • As well as the Yachtmaster Offshore qualification you will need, we go one stage further in providing a quality yacht maintenance training week, Powerboat Level 2 instruction, Radar course and MCA/STCW qualifications.

  • With over 30 years experience and a very highly regarded name within the industry we are the leaders in our field. Over the years we have developed the best possible Fast Track programme aimed at producing high quality sailors. To this end our students spend 73 of the total 98 days training at sea learning the skills of their trade. Progress is closely monitored through detailed debriefs and written progress reports so emphasis can be changed according to each student’s strengths and weaknesses.

  • Our programme is carefully designed to provide quality mileage and as such each teaching week has a specific set of learning objectives. Weeks are specifically prescribed as either "drills and skills" weeks in the Solent area or distance sails where you will cruise around the world's most challenging cruising ground, the English Channel. We strongly disagree with offering cheap miles on Ocean legs on a larger yacht where you will spend most of your time being a crew memeber with little oppurtunity to skipper or handle more demanding pilotage and boat handling scenarios.
