RYA Theory Courses From Barcelona

We have teamed up with "Explore Catalunya" at Palau de la Musica, 1, Barcelona and run RYA theory courses from their central office. The courses run include:

RYA Dayskipper Theory (5 Days) This theory course is an essential prequiste before you embark upon your 5 day Dayskpper Practical Course.

RYA Essential Navigation Course (2 days) This course is designed for people who don't need the full Day Skipper Course, covering elements of safety and navigation for day boaters

RYA Coastal Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Theory (5-6 days) This is advanced navigation and meterology for those who want their Coastal skipper or Yachtmaster in sail or motor.

RYA First Aid Course (1 day) In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives, especially in remote locations. 

RYA GMDSS Radio Course (1 Day) It is a legal requirement that someone onboard has a VHF license and this course teaches basic radio operation and what to do in situations of distress and emergencies. It is extremely beneficial to learn how to use a VHF as it is one of the most important safety features on any boat.

Barcelona RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship

Essential navigation and seamanship is ideally suited to those just about to take a Powerboat course or if you are sailing without the need for more advanced navigation skills covered in the Dayskipper theory. During the two day course we will go through the basics of navigation and get you familiar with charts, passage planning and awareness of tides.

On the seamanship side we will cover regular boat checks, anchoring, weather forecasts and safety.

Run from our office central  in Barcelona this course is a comprehensive introduction to cruising for inexperienced skippers and is an essential preparation for our RYA Day Skipper Practical Course.

Barcelona RYA Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Theory

RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster

The Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster RYA Theory course provides advanced training for experienced skippers that builds on the knowledge gained on the Day Skipper theory course.  It is aimed at those who are looking to execute complex sailing passages offshore or at night.  This course will take your theory knowledge to the standard required for Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore practical exams, concentrating on advanced navigation and meteorology skills. Course topics include:
  • Position fixing
  • Course shaping and plotting
  • Tides, secondary ports, streams, anomalies
  • IRPCS Lights, day shapes, sound signals
  • Pilotage and navigation in restricted visibility
  • Electronic aids to navigation
  • Advanced meteorology; interpreting forecasts, plotting weather systems and predictions through observations and use of    barometer
  • Customs and excise regulations for cruising abroad
Perquisites: You will need to have a good grasp of all subjects covered by the Day Skipper shore based course, and also of collision regulations.

Exams: There is three exams on Metrology, Chart work and collision regulations

Barcelona First Aid

RYA FIRST AID FROM BARCELONA

Study for your RYA First Aid, Safety at Sea certificate from our central office in Barcelona.  In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives, especially in remote locations.  From our  classroom in central Barcelona you will learn about; the Recovery Position, Cold Shock & Hypothermia from Immersion or Exposure, Drowning, Seasickness & Dehydration, Medical Assistance /Advice by VHF, Helicopter Rescue and CPR.

    On this practical course you will get the chance to move out of the classroom and work through different emergency scenarios on our boats, all the time gaining valuable information in a more realistic environment.  Yes you can put someone into the recovery position in a spacious classroom, but how about in the cockpit of a yacht, or near the engine bay of a motorcrusier?

    Course Objective:  You will have a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft

    Barcelona GMDSS Radio Course

    GMDSS VHF RADIO COURSE

    It is a legal requirement that someone onboard has a VHF license and this course teaches basic radio operation and what to do in situations of distress and emergencies. It is extremely beneficial to learn how to use a VHF as it is one of the most important safety features on any boat.

        •    Global Maritime Distress & Safety System
        •    Search & Rescue  
        •    The Correct Frequencies to Use  
        •    Digital Selective Calling

    Course Objective: You will understand basic procedures and how to operate a VHF Radio. 

    Course Assessment: There is a short written exam at the end of the course, please not the exam fee is £60 made payable to the RYA. 

    Prerequisite: Knowledge of Phonetic Alphabet & Passport Photo
