Open Day Kicks Off National Watersports Month In Shropshire
Telford and Shropshire SCs running free have a go sessions
Telford Sailing Club kicks off a great month to get out on the water for the first time in Shropshire as they host their FREE annual Open Day on Sunday 11 May.
May is National Watersports Month and both Telford SC and Shropshire SC, near Ellesmere, are running free Open Days and 'have a go' sessions to encourage people to give sailing a try this monthAll comers are invited for a free taste of sailing at Priorslee Lake, between 11am-4pm, when Telford SC hosts its 2014 Open Day.
Last year the club welcomed over 70 adults and juniors, who were given taster sailing sessions, to their Open Day.Meanwhile, Shropshire SC will be opening its gates at Whitemere on Sunday 18 May (11am-4pm) as part of national RYA Push the Boat Out weekend.
No fewer than 230 clubs, centres and organisations nationwide - and 40 in the Midlands - are running Push the Boat Out events over that weekend.All tasters will be run by experienced club members, and visitors will get to fully sample the social side of what the clubs can offer.
Gareth Brookes, RYA Regional Development Officer for the Midlands, said: “All of our clubs in Shropshire run accessible, affordable and inclusive activities for all, regardless of age, gender, background or experience.
“These events are an incredible opportunity for local people in Shropshire to discover what sailing and sailing clubs are really like, and enjoy a fantastic, social outdoor sport where everyday life really does get left on the shore.”
Refreshments will be available and a warm welcome is guaranteed as BBQs and other social activities also take place to give newcomers a real sense of each club.
All you need for any of the Open Days or ‘have a go’ sessions are a change of clothes, soft soled shoes and a towel and the clubs/centres will provide what else you need.
