Login Issues
If you're having trouble logging into your account:
Note: We're unable to reply to every bug report, but we may contact you for more details as we investigate. Thanks for taking the time to help us improve Facebook.
If you're having trouble logging in, make sure you enter your entire phone number, including the country code. Leave out any extra zeros, + signs or other special characters. If you still can't log in or if you forgot your password, get help.
Note: If you signed up for Facebook from your mobile phone, you can use your phone number and the password you created during the signup process to log in from a computer or phone.
This security check is designed to protect people from suspicious logins (ex: logins from a different computer or country). If you have trouble identifying your friends, please wait a few hours and try again.
You're seeing this message because our systems detected spam or other malicious content posted by your Facebook account. This activity suggests your computer might be infected with malware.
To keep both your account and the files on your computer secure, your computer needs to be scanned and cleaned. Since we partner with anti-virus vendors like F-Secure and Trend Micro, you can do this for free by logging in with Facebook and following the on-screen directions. The software will then try to detect and remove the malware for you.
Learn more about F-Secure and Trend Micro.
- Open Internet Explorer
- Click Tools and then select Internet Options
- Click on the Security tab, and then click the Custom Level button at the bottom of the window
- Find User Authentication in the list of settings and select the option for Automatic login with current user name and password
We're sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Please file a detailed report.
If you have login notifications or login approvals turned on, we'll ask you to save the computer or mobile device you use to log into Facebook. This way we won't send you a notification or make you enter a code every time you log in.
Error Messages
If you're seeing a "Must be logged in to see this page" error message after you log into your account, please let us know.
Some people are seeing a message after logging in that asks them to update their email address. If you're seeing this message it's probably because your email service provider (ex: Yahoo!) is treating Facebook emails as spam. Please contact your email service provider and let them know you're having problems receiving emails from Facebook.
If you're using Internet Explorer, please follow these instructions to adjust your browser’s security settings. If you continue to see this error, you may need to add www.facebook.com to your browser's list of safe sites.
If you're seeing this message when you log in, it usually means that we're making an improvement to the database that your account is stored on. While we're doing this, you won't be able to access your account. We're sorry for the inconvenience.
A few things to note:
- After the maintenance is over, you'll still be able to log in with the same password
- Your account won't be affected by the maintenance
- We don't do site maintenance on all accounts at the same time, so it's possible that your friends will be able to access the site while your account is unavailable
If you're still seeing this error after 24 hours, please let us know.
Password Reset Issues
If you're having trouble logging into your account from the Find Your Account page, try these tips:
- Ask one of your Facebook friends to look at the About section of your Timeline and send you the email address listed in the Contact Information section.
- Try entering every email address or mobile number you've owned (one at a time). You may have added an email address or mobile number to your account and forgotten about it.
- Enter your username. Your username is your personalized Facebook URL:If you don't know your username, ask a friend to go to your Timeline and send you the username in the URL.
- Try entering variations of your name, just in case you signed up using a nickname.
- If you're asked to enter a friend's name, try a variety of friends if the first friend you try doesn't locate an account. Remember to enter your friend's full name, not just their first name.
If you think your account was taken over by someone else, get help.
Please make sure that your caps lock key is turned off. If you're still unable to log into your account, update your password.
This issue may be related to your web browser. First, try to log in with a different web browser. You can download the following browsers for free:
If you continue to experience this problem, log out of your account and reset your password.
If you're seeing an error message saying your password reset link is invalid:
- Try copying and pasting the full link you received into your address bar. Some email providers will separate the link onto several lines, so be sure to copy the entire link.
- Try resetting your password again.
If you requested a new password but didn't receive your password-reset email:
- Check the spam or junk mail folder in your email account.
- Check all of the email accounts and mobile numbers connected to your Facebook account. When you request a password reset, you'll see a list of the email addresses and mobile numbers confirmed on your account. You'll have the option to send the password-reset email to some or all of these accounts. Keep in mind that for security reasons, parts of the email addresses and phone numbers will be hidden (ex: fxxxxxxk@fxxxxxxk.com, xxxxxxx5555).
- Try to reset your password again.
- If you still don't receive the email after requesting a password reset, wait 24 hours and try again.
- If you’re still not receiving your password-reset email after the trying the steps above, contact your Internet Service Provider (ex: Comcast) to make sure they’re not blocking email traffic coming from Facebook.
If you got a Facebook password reset email that you didn't request, it's likely that someone accidentally entered your email address or username when attempting to log into their account. This often happens if you have a popular username or email address. As long as you don't click the link contained in the email, no action will be taken and your account will remain secure.
If you receive a second email confirming that your password was reset, secure your account.
In order to keep your account safe, we only let you request a new password a certain number of times each day. Please wait 24 hours and then try to reset your password again. Also, check your email's spam or junk folder.
