Facebook is seeking a Data Scientist to join the Identity Research and Modeling group in our Core Data Science team. Individuals in this role are expected to be comfortable working as a software engineer and a quantitative researcher. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in the study of an online social network, and a passion for identifying and answering questions that help us build the best products.
The Identity Research and Modeling group develop high-quality models of people's online identity to power next-generation people-centric products and gain deeper insights into how people interact with the digital world.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with a product team to help them leverage identity modeling
- Research methods to improve inferences of attributes in our identity models
- Develop new user models and work closely with engineering teams to integrate them into Facebook products
- Perform studies to gain deeper understanding of how people use Facebook products
- Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources
Requirements
- Ph.D. in a relevant technical field, or 4+ years experience in a relevant role
- Comfort manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources
- A passion for deeper understanding of people and how they interact with the world through digital means
- A flexible analytic approach that allows for results at varying levels of precision
- Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
- Fluency with at least one scripting language such as Python or PHP
- Familiarity with relational databases and SQL-like query languages
- Expert knowledge of an analysis tool such as R, Matlab, or SAS
- One or more of
- -Expertise in text mining, NLP methods, information extraction and/or machine learning
- -Expertise in user modeling
- -Expertise in social psychology and computational social science
- -Experience working with distributed computing tools a plus (Hadoop, Hive, etc.)
