Facebook is seeking exceptional researchers to join our Economics Research and Modeling group in our Core Data Science team. Our group conducts use-inspired research in the areas of pricing, forecasting, market design, advertising, social impact, and networks and builds models of the economics of Facebook's business and the behavior of the people and advertisers who use our site. The ideal candidate is an empiricist comfortable implementing practical and theoretically-founded solutions to complex business problems and has expertise fitting models to data and the design and analysis of experiments. Must be comfortable working in a software engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build models of Facebook’s business and advertising marketplace
  • Build systems to analyze economic and experimental data
  • Design and analyze experiments of Facebook's products
  • Answer business questions by using appropriate statistical techniques on available data
  • Communicate findings to managers and engineers, often through succinct written research summaries.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a relevant technical field, or 4+ years experience in a relevant role
  • A strong passion for empirical research with a demonstrated research record solving applied problems
  • Experience fitting models to data and working with complex, high-dimensional data
  • Ability to communicate and visualize complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
  • Expert knowledge of an analysis tool such as R, Matlab, or Stata
  • Comfortable on the command line and with Unix core tools
  • Fluency or familiarity with at least one scripting language such as Python or PHP
  • Experience with online data (extracting data from APIs, scraping websites, etc.) a plus
  • Experience working with distributed computing tools (Hadoop, Hive, etc.) a plus
  • One or more of
  • -Expertise in macroeconomics, time series analysis, and forecasting
  • -Expertise in industrial organization, structural modeling, and demand and price modeling.
  • -Expertise in auctions, market design, and numerical simulation
  • -Experience and a strong track record conducting computational social science research
  • -Experience running large-scale experiments or network experiments
