Facebook is building a Voice over IP solution that would revolutionize the phone call scenario. Given Facebook’s reach across all the markets, devices and operating systems, the potential is limitless. The team is looking for an experienced Video Codec Engineer who would work on the Video quality aspects of this call feature in our Menlo Park or Seattle office.

Responsibilities

  • The person in this role would help the team to scale the solution across multiple devices and network conditions.
  • Hence the ability to develop solutions that pick up appropriate codec and other components based upon the device capabilities and network parameters is required.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to debug reports of bad Video quality and map them to specific modifications in the Video streaming pipeline.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. Computer Science or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in building, modifying, testing and improving Video pipelines for VoIP solutions
  • Low level coding in C is required, Coding in C++ is a plus. Hands on experience with various algorithms and Video Codecs (H.264, H.263, HEVC or On2-VP8), Video formatting, Encoding and Real time Video Streaming...any mobile experience is a big plus.
