You can turn push notifications on or off from your Facebook app or the settings on your phone or mobile device.

Android

If you want to get push notifications, first turn them on from your phone's settings. To turn on push notifications:

1. Tap and then scroll to the bottom of the menu
2. Tap Account Settings > Notifications > Mobile Push
3. Check the things you want to get notifications about or un-check the things you don't want to get notifications about

iPhone

If you want to get push notifications, first turn them on from your iPhone's settings. To turn on push notifications:

1. Open your phone's Settings
2. Tap Notification Center > Facebook
3. Set your Alert Style to Banners or Alerts
4. Tap Show in Notification Center so it becomes green
5. Tap Show on Lock Screen

To adjust your push notifications or turn them off, go to your Facebook app settings:

1. Tap More and then scroll to the bottom of the menu
2. Tap Account Settings > Notifications > Mobile Push
3. Check the things you want to get notifications about or un-check the things you don't want to get notifications about

iPad

If you want to get push notifications, first turn them on from your iPad’s settings. To turn on push notifications:

1. Open your settings by tapping
2. Tap Notification Center > Facebook
3. Set your Alert Style to Banners or Alerts
4. Tap Show in Notification Center so it becomes green
5. Tap Show on Lock Screen

To adjust your push notifications or turn them off, go to your Facebook app settings:

1. Tap More and then scroll to the bottom of the menu
2. Tap Account Settings > Notifications > Mobile Push
3. Check the things you want to get notifications about or un-check the things you don't want to get notifications about

Mobile web browsers

You can't adjust push notifications from mobile browsers right now.

Feature phones

You can't adjust push notifications from feature phones right now.

To send a message:

1. Click Messages in the left menu.
2. Click New Message.
3. Start typing a name into the To field. Names of friends and other people you know will appear in a dropdown.
4. Select the person or people you want to message.
5. Type your message and click Send.

You can also message someone by clicking Message at the top of their Timeline.

If you replied Join or Maybe to a public event, you can check in from your phone or tablet within 3 hours of the event's start time. You can also check other people into the event during that time.

If there's an address listed for the event, you can see it in your list of nearby places and check in from there.
