It was a particularly gloomy day for the start of the week of racing but luckily enough wind for some action came through.

The South wind was most consistent in the areas where the 49er and 49erFX were racing in the early stages of the afternoon (maximum 12 - 14knots).

In contrast the other classes were experiencing a bit less wind until later in the afternoon when the wind built to a fairly consistent 14 knots. The 49er, Laser Standard, RS:X and Nacra 17 managed to complete three races whereas the Laser Radial, 470 male and female and Paralympic classes managed two.

Men's and Women's 470

There was light wind for the 470's and the first results were not in line with the provisional rankings at the start of the regatta. In the lead are the Italians Giulio Desiderato and Andrea Trani with a first and a tenth. In second place with a ninth and a third are Yannick Brauchli and Romuald Hausser.

In the Women's 470 the Linda Fahri and Maja Siegenthaler (SUI) dominanated with two firsts and have a nine point lead over the Italians Francesca Komatar and Sveva Carraro who were fairly consistent with a sixth and a fifth.

49er and 49erFX

Russia, France and Italy occupy the first three positions in the 49er. With a 9-5-1 Russia's Pavel Kalinchev and Pavel Karachov lead followed by the French team of Julien D'Ortoli and Noe Delpech. Luca and Roberto Dubbini (ITA) are third.

There is a very even situation in the 49erFX with Dutch team Annemiek Bekkeering and Annette Didetz have a one point lead over three crews. Denmark's Jena Mai Hansen and Katja Slaskov-Iversen, New Zealand's Alex Maloney and Molly Meech and Brazil's Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze are tied in second.

Men's and Women's RS:X

The RS:X started racing late in the afternoon when the wind had picked up. Although the numbers participating is not very high, eight of the thirteen competitors come from as far away as China, Japan, Oman and Thailand.

In the lead is the Croatia's Luka Mratovic. Second place is occupied by Federico Esposito (ITA) and third by the Thai sailor Ek Boonsawad.

In the Women's division it is a battle between sailors from Italy and Asian with three Japanese racers, one Thai and two Italians. Megumi Komine (JPN) holds the lead.

Nacra 17

World #1 Nacra 17 duo Vittorio Bissaro and Silvia Sicouri didn't disappoint with a second and two third places to lead and are followed by French team Moana Vaireaux and Manon Audinet. Ingrid Petitjean Backes and Olivier Backes (FRA) are third.

Paralympic Events

Barend Kol (NED) leads the 2.4mR. Great Britain's Alex Rickham and Niki Birrell have control in the SKUD18 whilst the German Sonar team are in control in their fleet.

Laser

The laser fleet is the biggest with 79 competitors and is the only one divided into two fleets. The wind was fairly light in the first two races but built up to 14 knots for the third and final race at the end of the day.

Brazil's Robert Scheidt, who has chosen Lake Garda as his preferred training ground and home, started in his usual emphatic fashion by taking the lead with a (2,1,4) and has a five point advantage over the Britain's Nick Thompson. Third is the Italian Alessio Spadoni on equal points.

Laser Radial

Close together and somewhat at a distance from the rest of the fleet are the first three women in Laser Radial. In the lead is Denmark's Anne Marie Rindom, 6 points, followed by Silvia Zennaro (ITA) and Amelie Riou (ITA).
