Fleets

Preferred Classes These are classes which the club encourages and supports. They are selected for their suitability for the water on which we sail and current level of activity and enthusiasm at the club. By sailing one of these classes you are immediately part of a group and can gauge your performance against these other similar boats.
Laser 1	Most popular single hander of all time. Sailed with 3 rigs standard, radial and 4.7 to deal with different weights. Suitable for near beginner to Olympic level sailor. Laser 2000	2 man sitting out dinghy. The Laser 2000 is a great family boat, designed to be sailed with a variety of crew ability. The Laser 2000 gives superb performance whilst staying manageable for less experienced sailors, its popularity has grown tremendously over the last few years, sailing schools and clubs like the boat for its simplicity and "easy to sail" design. It has an asymmetric kite which provides excitement downwind. There are a good number of 2000s at the club and the fleet is getting keener. Dinghy Mixed Fleet
Laser 4000	a two man dinghy with single trapeze. Fast twitchy dinghy with asymmetric spinnaker. Can be raced by a variety of weight combinations. RS400	a two man sitting out dinghy. A fast racing boat with asymmetric spinnaker. Can be raced by a heavier weight combination than the Laser 4000. Requires a good level of strength and fitness.
RS800	a two man two trapeze dinghy. A high performance skiff requiring agility and quick reactions most suitable for lighter weight combinations quite often sailed by husband and wife combinations.
Musto Performance Skiff	single handed, single trapeze dinghy. Fast and furious , requiring high levels of skill, fitness and strength. Laser SB3	a modern racing asymmetric keelboat sailed by 3 4 people. Fantastic performance keelboat, highly responsive the keelboat of the moment and a growing fleet in the club. If you yearn for the responsiveness of a dinghy but prefer the security of a keel then this is for you.
Squib	19ft keelboat with distinctive tan sails. Dart 18	established, affordable single or double handed catamaran this is the choice for the non-asymmetric cat sailor, especially suited to those new to cat sailing. Generally a good selection available at very reasonable prices. Double Handers	RSC has a mix - F18s (Nacra, Hobie Tiger, Dart Hawk), Hurricane 5.9 and SX, and Stealth F16. Optimist	The classic single handed junior boat, available in wood, fibreglass and plastic. The boat is stable even in strong winds and is ideal for the smaller/younger sailor to both learn the basics and race competitively. The Optimist is one of the RYAs recognised junior pathway classes, with regional and national squad training and racing. Most Olympic sailors started in Optimists!
Topper	Single handed junior boat, great fun and good to race. Made of injection moulded polypropylene, making the boat strong and almost maintenance free! A recognised RYA junior pathway class, with regional and national squad training and racing. The largest junior racing fleet at Rutland.
Pico	Primarily a single handed junior boat but a small jib can be rigged and the boat sailed two up. The thermoplastic hull is almost indestructible! A great introductory boat, used by the Sailing School and a popular choice at Rutland.
RS Feva	A two-person hiking asymmetric junior boat. An exciting and safe introduction to gennaker-sailing. Plus the variety of rig options provide excellent flexibility. The RYA has also recently adopted the Feva as a recognised junior class.
Laser 4.7/ Radial/ Standard	The Laser is a one-design single hander. Three simple, interchangeable rigs take the growing sailor from the Optimist or Topper to an introduction to youth sailing with the 4.7 rig and then to full youth sailing in the Radial with the final step to the full rig.
29er	The high performance youth boat. A 'no-holds-barred' skiff designed along the same sleek lines as its big sister, the 49er. Whilst not a beginners boats, the 29er provides sparkling performance at an affordable price for lighter crews, making this an ideal boat for teenagers.
