This is our single most pressing matter, forget the other political wars, bad as they are, we will have nothing to be patriotic about if we don't deal with this issue as a whole now!
    • Love their mission of seeing how severe plastic pollution is around the world! Anxious to see the garbage island results, yo!!!!! A big thank you to the research crew for all your hard work:)))!!!!!!

  5. Hey Texans! We need a few more volunteers to assist at our Texas State University San Marcos presentation on Tuesday, April 8. 5 Gyres Institute Founder and Adventurer, Marcus Eriksen, will be discussing our latest research on plastic pollu...tion and what you can do locally to move towards zero waste. The event will be held at Centennial Auditorium from 6-9pm.

We need volunteers to help with some fun activities for attendees to help spread the word on how each of can help drive change. Volunteers would need to arrive at 5pm for set-up and training. Interested in helping out? Ping betheseachange@5gyres.org Thanks!

  7. From science to solution- just 1.5 years ago 5 Gyres discovered microbeads in Tye Great Lakes. Today, we're at the capital in California to testify for our bill to rid these horrible plastic beads from commerce. Entirely. This is what we do- science to solution.

Marcus and Anna from 5 Gyres discussing plastic pollution during CNN's coverage of the Malaysian air tragedy. Thanks to our amazing PR guru Zan Dubin Scott for getting 5Gyres on CNN 4 days in a ROW! A notable contradiction here, guessing you'll spot it straight away!

  12. MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT! 5 Gyres will be ending operations as an entity at the end of the week. We have learned through our research that there is no cause for alarm for the billions of pounds of plastic in the ocean. In fact, it's a viable food source. Thanks for your years of support!
  13. Great job Dr. Marcus "Gyre" Eriksen on CNN. An unusual explosion of interest in our trashed oceans....the disappearance putting a sober human face on it all, and sparking global attention.
