Vote Sir Ben for BBC SPOTY!
How you can show your support for Sir Ben Ainslie at prestigious BBC awards
The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards are this Sunday 15 December – don’t miss your chance to vote for Sir Ben Ainslie, shortlisted for his America’s Cup-winning exploits in September.
Oracle Team USA was staring down the barrel of a crushing defeat at the hands of Emirates Team New Zealand in September, when Ainslie was promoted from Oracle’s training crew to the on-board role as tactician. He helped mastermind one of the greatest comebacks in sport, one which made sailing part of the national and international conversation, and went on to secure the Cup 9-8.
The victory came just a year after Ainslie had written his name into the history books by becoming the greatest Olympic sailor of all time, winning Finn gold at London 2012 to add to his three golds and a silver amassed since Atlanta 1996.
Show your support this Sunday night for Sir Ben, whose next quest is to try and win the oldest trophy in sport for the first time with a British team.
UK fans can vote either by phone or online via the BBC website during the BBC Sports Personality live show starting at 1940 GMT on BBC One and BBC Radio 5 Live.
The phone number to call will be revealed on the night, and we will publish on the RYA Facebook and Twitter pages, and British Sailing Team Facebook and Twitter pages.
To vote online, you need to be registered and signed in to the BBC website – see here for more details.
