    The first family event

Needless to say that our flight out to Hyeres was cancelled so Sarah, our son Thomas, his nanny Peggy and Saskia piled into the XC90 and made our way across the channel and down to Hyeres. DVD’s kept the passengers entertained most of the way and Thomas was a little legend for the entire trip, he chilled out in the back chatting away and being his usual happy little self.

    Waiting for wind in Hyeres

We’ve arrived in France for the 4th ISAF World Cup Event. I borrowed Ed’s book ‘Less Than Zero’ and read most of the way down, whilst Stevie and Dave drove! Ed passed the time by drawing a moustache on Dave every time he fell asleep and Stevie woke up from a sleep thinking he was driving but other than that a pretty uneventful road trip.

    French Olympic Sailing Week

So the European travel chaos that I am sure you have all heard more than enough about, proved some disruption to the team as we were scheduled to be in the South of France for the fourth World Cup event from earlier last week. Most of the team cracked on despite their flights being cancelled and thanks to our sponsors Volvo and Sea France managed not to lose too much time in their event preparation.

    Feeding Time!

Standing outside the store looking at the pallets of food awaiting to be loaded onto the van for the up coming event in Hyeres, I was looking at it and wondering have I got enough? Have I got too much? After visiting the cash and carry 3 times in 1 day, I decided that indeed that is enough, anything we run short of I can purchase while I'm out in Hyeres.

    Getting Back in the Boat

It’s been a really exciting time for me since Beijing both on and off the water, and I have just announced my return sailing. The 470, which I will be sailing with Saskia Clark, is such a fast and fun boat to sail. Especially when you compare it to the Yngling! Starting a new campaign with Saskia brings a whole new challenge, especially since mine and Nick’s first child Thomas was born. So it has been hard trying to balance everything and still have the same enthusiasm but I am really focused on our 470 campaign and achieving all we can as a new team.

    Different Day, Different Boat

The National Ranker in Weymouth this weekend sadly couldn't’t raise enough interest to secure a Sonar Class start within the Championship, so rather than let the opportunity to race get away, we decided to step into the Skud 18 class.

    The Verdict on Palma

Just back from Princess Sofia and I’ve finally got a chance to reflect on last week in Palma! The snow that had graced our training camp earlier in March luckily disappeared and for most of the week we had great weather, although the unheated outdoor pool at the team hotel was still a little chilly!

    Day 4 in Palma

Sat here in Palma in the now famous white van with my partners in crime, disco disco Simon Briscoe (Performance Analyst) and Lindsey Bell (Communications Manager) we are slowly coming to the end of another long day here at the Princess Sofia Regatta.
