WHAT WILL YOU CHANGE?

Yimby by JustGiving: the new crowdfunding community for social good.

HOW IT WORKS

Use Yimby to help power the change you want to make. Here's how:

EASY
It's easy to set up a project, easy to tell your story and easy for your supporters to pledge support. Did we mention that it was easy?
SAFE
Yimby is from the people behind JustGiving. We’ve been helping people raise money online for over 12 years. Millions of people have trusted us to get their money straight to good causes. So you’re in safe hands with us.
CROWD-POWERED
Get donations and support from your friends and reach them using your favourite social networks. We get them to tell their friends, and their friends...you get the picture.
FAST
You have 30 days to hit your target, so you can run a focussed campaign, raise a rabble and not get distracted from changing the world. All in under a month.
DEMOCRATIC
The projects are all or nothing. If you hit your target, the money is paid to your bank account minus our 5% fee and card charges (that’s 1.3% or 16p per pledge depending on the card type). If you don't hit your target, no one is charged. But we'll do our ruddy best to help you get there.

THE YIMBY WAY

These six truths we hold to be self-evident.

Think of them as The Yimby Way. We believe...

Each of us has a choice: walk away from things that need changing, or do something positive to make things better. 1
+
...IN GIVING A DAMN
Yimby is the power of “we”. By harnessing people power we achieve more. 2
+
...GOOD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN WE WORK TOGETHER
Action is the antidote to despair. It’s better to light a candle than curse the darkness. 3
+
...IN THE POWER OF POSITIVE ACTION
Yimby is about everyday people making change happen, now. We’re impatient to make the world an ever-so-slightly better place. 4
+
...IN DOING IT YESTERDAY
Yimby lets the people decide – if enough people support a project, it’ll happen; if they don’t, it won’t. It’s as simple as that. 5
+
...IN DIRECT DEMOCRACY
Big changes start small. Now everyone can help change the world one project at a time. 6
+
...IN SMALL ACTS OF KINDNESS

HELP AND TIPS

Got questions? Here are some answers:

If it's UK based, you're over 18 and are working on something for social good, then the answer is probably yes. Check out some of the projects we love to see how other people are using Yimby.
Nope. Yimby allows any individual to start their own community project without being a registered charity.
Once you've submitted your project, we check to see that your project fits the Yimby criteria and that we can verify your details, and that usually takes no longer than a day. Well, we wouldn't want to keep you waiting when you could be out changing the world.
We charge a 5% fee and card fees (that’s 1.3% or 16p per donation depending on the card type) on projects that hit their target. We don't charge anything on unsuccessful projects as no money changes hands. For the 5% we provide a trusted technology platform, years of experience in helping you hit your target, and unlimited cups of hot tea*.

*this may or may not be true
Why are we called Yimby? We're the exact opposite of that moany Nimby (not in my backyard) lot. We're the people who don't take no for an answer and make good stuff happen. Oh and we’re from the people behind JustGiving. Think of us as the noisy younger sibling.

Growing Group

Michael - the guerrilla gardening champion

AMOUNT RAISED £520

Michael literally got his hands dirty to bring local people together: he raised £520 to start a growing group on his East London housing estate, purchasing tools and rainwater collectors. Now Michael’s neighbours have come together to grow fruit and veg, sowing the seeds of YIMBY with forks and trowels. Getting one of your five a day has never been so good.

Here’s what the project supporters said:

  • Glad to support a project that brings communities together, benefiting young and old.

  • Good luck with the project guys, I support anyone who takes matters into the hands of the community.

Lancaster Bulldogs

Shaun – changing perceptions about disability

AMOUNT RAISED £2,520

Shaun and his friend Andrew wanted to help the Lancaster Bulldogs Wheelchair Basketball Club buy more wheelchairs. Well you can't really compete at the top level of your sport, or encourage kids to take up the sport, with shoddy wheels, can you?

He created a Yimby project and managed to get support for their club's appeal to buy better equipment by raising £2,520 in just 30 days. So no more second hand chairs for them, and the club can now continue their schools disability awareness scheme, helping kids get involved in the sport too. Better wheels, better self esteem and better education. Even Magic Johnson will never have shot a better 3 pointer.

Here’s what the project supporters said:

  • For a group of young people who so positively overcome such major life changing traumas and go on to lead full and active lives. Go Bulldogs!

Promise Foundation

Promise – helping young people realise their potential

AMOUNT RAISED £6,810

When 12-year-old Promise met Camilla, local mum and mentor, she had huge potential at school but faced challenges at home. Through her relationship with Camilla, and plain old hard work, Promise eventually went on to earn a university place at Cambridge.

In true Yimby style, Promise isn’t taking it easy but giving others the chances she had by teaming up with her sister Josephine and Camilla to set up the Promise Foundation. They raised over £6,000 in 30 days, which will be used to match local professionals with kids, to provide mentoring and work experience and employment opportunities. So more promising kids can be like Promise.

Here’s what the project supporters said:

  • I can't think of a more positive way to make a difference to young people with unrealised potential.

  • Such an inspiring vision - looking to many bright futures.
