Major Oceanic Events

The events below all have ISAF Major Oceanic Event status and their Organizers have all signed the ISAF Oceanic Concordat.

A bi-annual meeting of the Major Oceanic Event Organizers is organized to discuss the rolling four year calendar of major oceanic events, updates on future events or classes, communication, safety and other matters relating to ISAF and the international sport of sailing in oceanic events.

Barcelona World Race

The Barcelona World Race is a non-stop, round-the-world yacht race for crews of two, sailed on Open 60 IMOCA monohull boats. Following the Clipper route, it starts and finishes in Barcelona.

Transat Québec-St Malo

The Transat Québec-St Malo race was first sailed in 1984 to mark the 450th anniversary of explorer Jacques Cartier's first voyage from Saint-Malo to the Gulf of St Lawrence. This is the only continuous west-to-east offshore crewed race.

Velux 5 Oceans

The VELUX 5 OCEANS Race is a round-the-world single-handed yacht race, sailed in stages, managed by Clipper Ventures Plc since 2000.

Vendée Globe

The Vendée Globe is a round-the-world single-handed yacht race, sailed non-stop and without assistance. The race was founded by Philippe Jeantot in 1989, and since 1992 has taken place every four years.

La Route du Rhum

The Route du Rhum - La Banque Postale is a single-handed offshore race open to multihulls and monohulls. The course is from Saint Malo in France to Pointe à Pitre in Guadeloupe.

Volvo Ocean Race

The Volvo Ocean Race is an exceptional test of sailing prowess and human endeavour which has been built on the spirit of great seafarers - fearless men who sailed the world's oceans aboard square rigged clipper ships more than a century ago.

The Transat

The Transat, originally known as the OSTAR in 1960 is the oldest solo ocean race of them all. The Transat has been the breeding ground for technology and the stars of the sport and since 2004 has been a monohull only race.
