Terms of reference

6.3.3 The Development and Youth Committee shall:

(a) be responsible for the appointment and removal of *ISAF nominated experts to run ISAF technical courses for coaches;(see appointment criteria below. For an application form and further detailed information please contact ISAF training@isaf.co.uk )

  1. Practical Sailing / Coaching competence and experience at International Level.
  2. Knowledge and understanding of coaching schemes in both Participation (learn to sail) / Performance (learn to race) pathways.
  3. National Qualifications / Certification (eg. European Coaching Framework - EQF equivalent) from 'Recognized' training schemes (Dinghy, Keelboat, Windsurf, Multihull, Yacht, Kiteboard, Powerboat, VHF, First Aid).
  4. Nominated for appointment by an ISAF Member National Authority.

Additional requirements:

  • Assisting an experienced Nominated Expert in the running of one Technical Course prior to full appointment (this will be arranged by ISAF upon receipt of application)
  • Attendance at a Continual Professional Development (CPD) event hosted by ISAF minimum period of once every two years.
  • Appropriate working knowledge of Anti-Doping applicable to the category at which appointed and in accordance with latest available WADA guidelines.

Categories of appointment as ISAF Nominated Expert: (Categories of appointment will depend on experience level and an individual Expert may therefore be appointed in more than one category)

  1. Learn to Sail (LTS) - Discipline specific skills eg Dinghy, Keelboat, Windsurf, Multihull, Yacht, Kiteboard etc
  2. Learn to Race (LTR) - Discipline specific skills eg Dinghy, Keelboat, Windsurf, Multihull, Yacht, Kiteboard etc
  3. Inspector (INS) - Multi discipline experience at National level.
  4. Mentor (MEN) - Used with Development of National Sports Structure (DNSS) - Multi discipline experience at Internationl Level

(b) recommend to the Council the ISAF Development Plan, agree priorities and monitor progress;

(c) recommend to the Council strategic development issues, budget requirements and policy;

(d) ensure that the ISAF Development Plan is consistent with the ISAF Strategic Plan;

(e) ensure that the ISAF Development Plan and other Committee activities are focused on achieving the stated objectives of the Committee; and

(f) consult with other ISAF Committees and other organisations on issues relevant to Development.
