ISAF Recognized Training

The ISAF Training and Development department is pleased to announce that a recommendation for full accreditation of the Federazione Italiana Vela (Italian ISAF Member National Authority) National Sail Training Programme has been successfully approved.
The 'Recognized Training' audit visit took place from 19 - 24 October and included a comprehensive review of the national programme management, combined with visits to a range of Training Venues including the Yacht Club Italiano, Genoa and Club Nautico, Loano.

A full report on the Italian audit visit will soon be available here on the ISAF website.

Speaking on behalf of the Federazione Italiana Vela (F.I.V), International Relations representative Walter Cavallucci commented, "To have the F.I.V National Training Programme accredited by ISAF is a necessity for my federation. Italy has a long history of sailing and for us to be able to share our experiences with other National Sailing Federations through the ISAF 'Recognized Training' process is important in many ways, namely the endorsement of the World Governing Body providing us with the ability to 'map' our National Programme against those of other nations."

Speaking also as a member of the ISAF Development and Youth Committee Mr Cavalucci added, "As a member of the ISAF Development and Youth Committee of ISAF it is important also for us (Italy) to lead by example and encourage other ISAF Members to follow. Our global sailing community is growing bigger each year and this process is helping to make the sport more accessible in nations that are new to the ISAF family."

Dan Jaspers, Training and Development Manager at ISAF said of the news, "I thank the Federazione Italiana Vela for coming on board with our work through the accreditation of their National Training Programme. It has been interesting to see how Italy has developed its programmes in a way that benefits Italian Coaches, sailors and athletes. Every programme we have accredited has been different from the others yet one theme binds them all together; a National Programme delivered by passionate and knowledgeable individuals who are committed to growing the sport in all areas through constantly evolving structures, tailored to the needs of the benefits to the end user, the sailor. As a direct result of the Italian Sailing Federation applying for ISAF 'Recognized Training' a number of other National Federations have expressed a wish to do the same thing. I can see a real momentum now gathering in favour of our Members joining together to share best practice and help unify the sport in a way that we have so far not seen. It is a wonderfully exciting time to be involved in the sport."
