ISAF Recognized Training

Federazione Italiana Vela, the ISAF Member National Authority (MNA) for Italy, has applied to ISAF for the accreditation of its National Sail Training Programme.
Italy will be the 9th Member National Authority to undergo the process of working with ISAF to 'map' the National Training Programmes of its members against an international framework of key standards including sustainability.

The ISAF Accreditation audit visit will be carried out by ISAF Development and Youth Committee Chairman Olivier Bovyn (FRA) who has conducted similar audits in Great Britain, Austria and Spain as well as heading to New Zealand later this year. The proposed dates for the visit will be 20 - 22 October 2013 and will include visits to a number of venues in Italy, including the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa.

Federazione Italiana Vela representative Walter Cavalucci (ITA) explained why the F.I.V has applied for ISAF Recognized Training status, "To have the F.I.V National Training Programme accredited by ISAF is a necessity for my federation. Italy has a long history of sailing and for us to be able to share our experiences with other National Sailing Federations through the ISAF 'Recognized Training' process is important in many ways, namely the endorsement of the World Governing Body providing us with the ability to 'map' our National Programme against those of other nations."

Speaking also as a member of the ISAF Development and Youth Committee Mr Cavalucci added, "As a member of the Development and Youth Committee of ISAF it is important also for us (Italy) to lead by example and encourage other ISAF Members to follow. Our global sailing community is growing bigger each year and this process is helping to make the sport more accessible in nations that are new to the ISAF family. I very much look forward to being able to facilitate our upcoming accreditation audit visit and in implementing any suggestions that ISAF may give the F.I.V as to how we can further develop."

ISAF Training and Development Manager Dan Jaspers said of this application, "I am very happy that the Federazione Italiana Vela (F.I.V) has applied for the recognition of its National Training Programme. I spoke to Mr Cavalucci at our Oman based ISAF Development Symposium earlier this year and he stated his intent to host the ISAF accreditation audit this year and after only a few months we are ready to do just that. As anyone looking at the list of accredited nations that we have worked with in this process will notice, there are clear and obvious differences between them. Visiting Italy to see how they have developed the sport will add yet another viewpoint to help us further develop the generic guidelines and resources that we are producing for all members, including those who are not yet at this stage of delivering a National Training Programme. I'd like to thank President Carlo Croce and Walter Cavalucci and all at the Federazione Italiana Vela for their support in this process."

If you think that your MNA would benefit from the ISAF Recognized Training accreditation of its National Training Programme (NTP) and wish to apply or, for a list of all accreditation audit reports go to the ISAF website training pages here.
