Overview

Sunsail’s base at Wickham’s Cay II, Tortola, is the best located and best equipped yacht charter base on the island. Situated on the outskirts of Road Town, it is the perfect "jump off" start point for an incredible British Virgin Islands' sailing adventure.  In fact, the sailing is so fantastic that Sunsail has more yachts here than anywhere else in the world.

The British Virgin Islands has all of the essential elements for the ultimate sailing experience in one perfect place: easy deep-water island hops, consistent trade winds, line-of-sight navigation and plentiful sheltered anchorages, make this an excellent family-friendly location, perfect for sailing adventures. 

Striking white sand beaches boast extraordinary rock formations and a great selection of laid-back bars and restaurants. Water visibility of 100-130ft  makes snorkelling, kayaking and paddle-boarding a real thrill, spotting hawksbill turtles, manta rays, eagle rays, trumpet fish and angelfish. For even more adventure, Sunsail can hook you up with local dive schools and all kinds of other cool activities on the water, under it or over it!

Sailing in the BVI

The British Virgin Islands are classed as a Level 1 sailing area (Levels explained).

A British Virgin Islands yacht charter from Tortola, with its easy, deep-water sailing between sixty stunning islands, is suitable for sailors with just a little previous sailing experience, which novices can gain at our on-site RYA sailing school.

The liveliest holiday time here is generally around Christmas with the more secluded period during the summer months. Winds in the winter are generally northeast trade winds. Summer winds come from the southeast. Temperatures average 26º - 30ºC (78 - 86ºF) year round.

    Peter Island has a bit of everything that makes the British Virgin Islands a year round favourite with yacht charterers. On a Peter Island boat charter you can enjoy the spectacular beach and snorkelling at Deadman’s Bay, whilst watching out for Green Sea Turtles. Dive the famous Wreck of the Rhone, join in with the moko jumbee dancers, chill out listening to steel bands or visit a top-notch resort. Who said you can’t please everyone?

    Virgin Gorda is of course the home of the world-famous Baths; immense boulders that look as if they have been strewn by the hand of a giant across an idyllic beach, creating an incredible landscape of grottos and natural swimming pools. On a Virgin Gorda boat charter explore the Baths for yourself and walk through the tunnel to Devil’s Bay where you can find waves good enough for a bit surfing or body-boarding.
